Classroom to the Sky: Igniting the Love for Aerospace

This past Saturday was an experience for educators like no other. A group of 3rd- 5th grade teachers experienced a day full of hands-on STEM and aerospace-based activities to bring into their classroom for their students. The teachers also experienced taking flight in our Redbird Flight Simulators in our Redbird Flight Simulator Laboratory! They were taught how an aircraft operates and tried maneuvers themselves within the flight sim. Other sessions took place, such as viewing how our NOAA Science on a Sphere works.

Before these educational sessions, the teachers heard from our keynote speaker, NOAA Corps Captain Nathan Kahn. His speech included elements of how educators played a significant impact on his military career and where he is today. After the day’s events had ended, two teachers were selected for a discovery flight! They ended the day on a high note, with both teachers experiencing their first flight in a small aircraft.

Keep an eye out for our next Classroom to the Sky event in September. More details will come soon.
