Deadlines Announced for 5th Annual Project Stratos Essay Contest

5th Annual Project STRATOS

The deadline for the fifth annual STRATOS essay contest sponsored by the Aerospace Center for Excellence has been set for February 9. The Top Ten finalists will be named STRATOS Squadron Ambassadors to the 2018 SUN ‘n FUN International Fly-In and Expo.

In order to enter, participants must currently be a Junior or in their third year of high school. Essays are limited to one page written in 12 point Times New Roman font and should include the student’s picture and shirt size. All entries must be emailed to, no later than February 9.

Students may choose from one of the following three aerospace theme categories:

–People: What was their accomplishment and why is it significant?

–Events: What made this event significant to the evolution of aviation?

–Aircraft/Spacecraft: What made this a milestone for aviation?

Judges will select up to 24 semi finalists to interview either via telephone or in person February 13-15. All  semi-finalists will receive two free ‘day of choice’ passes to SUN ‘n FUN 2018, a SUN ‘n FUN keychain and a STRATOS T-Shirt.

Finalists will be announced February 20 and rewards include a NIKON camera with a memory card, four free week-long passes to SUN ‘n FUN 2018, publication of their names and schools in the SUN ‘n FUN Program guide and the opportunity to participate in the Thunderbird’s symposium scheduled during the week-long event.

The essay contest is designed to recognize students for aerospace-based research efforts as well as to raise awareness and funding for educational activities on the SUN ‘n FUN campus. Follow the link below for additional information.
