Members Impact Update – Aerospace Discovery at the Florida Air Museum

May-December 2016

Official Aviation Museum of the State of Florida

The second half of 2016 has been a time of continued growth for educational programs supported by your valued membership and support of Aerospace Discovery at Florida Air Museum.

  • The 1st Annual Unmanned and Sunny was a huge success. Attendees learned from Subject Matter Experts on the growing commercial usage of “drones”. Guest speakers included Dan Foard who utilized his skills to video the Rio Olympics for NBC with his drone.
  • The ACE Campus was also greeted by over 500 international students from 4 cities in China. These students were introduced to the word of aviation. A privilege reserved only for the very elite in China which thanks to the support of ACE and SUN ‘n FUN is achievable for all!
  • ACE continued their “Extension of the Classroom” by providing hands on STEM lessons to over 30 teachers. These teachers for the 1st time ever received “in-service” points towards their continuing education credits.
  • The Piedmont Aerospace Experience began to be utilized as a classroom for our students. To date, over 100 students have utilized this one of a kind educational asset
  • Aerospace Discovery Weekend (October 21-23, 2016) welcomed over 500 young men and women to the SUN ‘n FUN Expo Campus. During this weekend over 100 “first flights” were conducted. The event was highlighted by Astronaut Greg Johnson
  • Our high school students at CFAA were treated to their very own aviation themed homecoming weekend in November. This event is aptly named “Homecoming to the Sky”. Thanks to our partners at EAA 454 every freshman student at CFAA had an opportunity to fly in an airplane. The week was culminated with our “Solo to Success” ceremony where over 10 students received the honor of placing a brick in the CFAA walkway commemorating this momentous event in an aviator’s career.

This is just the first step as SUN ‘n FUN supported scholarship programs have now produced over 50 private’s pilots making us the WORLDS LEADER in producing youth pilots.
